FEEL LIKE YOU JUST CAN'T MOVE ON?
LET'S TALK PTSD
PTSD doesn't always look like visual flashbacks...
Do you feel like the intensity of your emotions don't always match the intensity of the situation?
Do every day interactions can trigger stress, anxiety, anger, or sadness?
Are certain people or places that are distressing to you but you can't figure out why?
A 3-Prong Approach To Trauma Therapy Can Help!
DBT
In the first prong of treatment we'll focus on stability. We'll assess your current coping strategies and identify areas where new coping skills would be useful. Using research based Dialectical Behavioral Training skills we will work together to decrease dissociation, increase stress tolerance, and prepare the mind and body for the intensity of deeper trauma work.
EMDR
In the second prong of treatment we will do the deeper work of trauma healing using EMDR. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Developed in 1989 by Francine Shapiro, EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to access and process traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences. Through this processing, the brain synthesizes the experience and distress levels lower.
ERP
In the final prong of treatment we will use ERP to "put your healing to the test" so to speak. Exposure Response Prevention is a research-based therapy technique that helps client's face their anxieties and learn to cope with uncertainty. I find this useful as a follow up to DBT and EMDR because ERP is a measured way to integrate our new learning and healing into our daily lives. We won't be able to see our progress with the first two prongs if we're too anxious to go out and live life to the fullest, ERP helps with that.
